Since I can remember I have been drawn to racing and race car drivers were my heroes. Growing up, I would memorize drivers names, their sponsors, the type/brand of the car that they drove and what made them stand out from the other competitors.
-
At an early age I knew exactly what I wanted to do, but how I was going to achieve my dream was a whole new reality in itself. I started my racing career at the age of 16 in a Limited Stock at Evergreen speedway in Monroe Washington. Learning the fundamentals in driving a race car, maintaining the race car and the importance of a supporting sponsor to assist with finances on the race car.
-
With career choices ahead of me I decided to take a break from racing and focus on the priorities that lied ahead.
-
I didn’t return to racing until 1994 driving a road race Shifter Kart in a northwest touring series, finishing a respectable 3rd place in points. In pursuit of my racing roots I decided to go dirt racing. My first season on the dirt I finished 2nd place in points and the following season I teamed up with Big Al Racing and won back to back championships and multi runner - ups in points for the seasons standings.
-
In 2004 a long time friend and I assembled a sprint car team, only racing a few races and we learned very quickly how unforgiving and expensive racing is. I destroyed the car in a series of flips and spins. At that point I knew that I could not support my racing career without the support of a sponsor or to race for a financially backed team. Two weeks later I interviewed with Kenneth Waller with Waller and Son motorsports out of Snohomish WA. Waller And Son Motorsports were known for there success in asphalt sprint car racing throughout the NW, although asphalt was not the direction I intended, I thought this would be a great opportunity to race with a proven team and allow me to focus on driving. I won my first race in Waller’s car in my very first start! It was a great start to a five year relationship that produced 5 feature race wins including the Rory Price Memorial, the Rebel Jackson Memorial and an SMRA Super modified race, 6 runner up finishes and multiple top 5 finishes.
-
Asphalt was not the direction I originally wanted to go, but it has taught me many valuable lessons and given me the experience I needed to be a successful race car driver without a financial tie. Now in my sixth year of driving sprint cars, I am again ready to get back to my roots of dirt racing. For the 2010 race season, I have decided to leave Waller and join forces with yet another proven team, Big John Motorsports out of Bellingham WA. Team Owner John Beard and I are very optimistic with our chances of continuing a successful racing program into the 2010 season.
