The Northwest Region is visiting Coos Bay Speedway for the first time ever for a race on Aug. 15.
The semi-banked, 3/8th mile clay track in Coos Bay, Ore., was built in 1968. However, it only began hosting sprint car races two years ago.
"It's hooked up," track owner Chuck Prather said. "It's not a dry-slick (track) ... nice wide turns and enough banking to go in three, four or five abreast."
The track is located less than 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean and within a few hundred feet of the bay.
"In the summer, you can't beat this place," Prather said. "When it's 105 (degrees) in the valley, it's 70 over here."
