07.14.10 Sunset Speedway
By: Stacy Verrall  -  7/14/2010

Stacy Verrall, BANKS, Ore. (July 14, 2010) - On Monday at Southern Oregon Speedway, he was third to roll across the finish line. On Tuesday at Willamette Speedway, he charged his way from an 18th starting position to score the evening’s second place prize. So it should be no surprise that on Wednesday at Sunset Speedway during the 13th Annual Northwest Speedweek Kyle Hirst would up his finishing position one more time and claim his first career ASCS win.

Racing around Oregon’s Sunset Speedway’s 1/5 mile took patience and timing. Hirst was patiently timed to perfection on night three of the ASCS Northwest’s Super Sizzlin Summer Speedweek, a skill demonstrated early on in the heat races when Hirst made a wild slide job on Steve Vague in turn four on the last lap for a crowd pleasing victory.

Henry Van Dam, Jason Solwold, Seth Bergman and Mitch Olson rounded out the top five. Current leader in points for the ASCS Northwest’s Rookie of the Year Award, Trey Starks, scored his best finish of the year with a sixth place finish. The 14 year old racer from Puyallup, WA, did an impressive job keeping the highly respected talent (Roger Crockett, Jason Johnson, Jayme Barnes and Steven Tiner) behind his tail tank.

And that my friends, is your top ten for the evening.

Earlier in day, Kyle Hirst and Steven Tiner talked about their racing careers and this weekend’s two day $10,092 to win Fred Brownfield Memorial Race with series announcer Fred Rannard on The Passing Point, an ASCS Northwest pre-race show broadcasted live on the internet before each race. You can check out the archived version of that interview by going to www.ThePassingPoint.com.

And speaking of The Passing Point, a special addition of the show will be broadcast live tomorrow (7/15/2010) at 3pm Pacific time at www.ThePassingPoint.com. Expect several special guests from both the ASCS National Series and ASCS Northwest Series to participate in the show which will be hosted live from Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA.
